A 2016 study from Nurse Journal found that, of 187,000 nursing jobs posted over a 90-day period, BSN holders were eligible for 88% of those jobs, while RNs with associate’s degrees were only eligible for 51% of them.

Why Do I Need an Associate Degree to be a Vocational Nurse?

While you don’t need an associate degree to become a Vocational Nurse, acquiring an ASVN degree can only boost your chances of employment as well as open new doors of opportunity. Not only are there jobs in traditional healthcare settings, such as clinics, physician offices, sub-acute and long term care facilities, but Vocational Nurses that have an ASVN degree can also find work in education, research, pharmaceutical, and medical equipment fields.

In order to qualify for the ASVN program at Unitek College, you must have already completed an approved Vocational Nursing or Practical Nursing program.

Vocational Nursing Program Overview

Our Vocational Nursing program offers hands-on training, practical experience, and industry support to pursue a rewarding career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). We designed our course curriculum to prepare you for a successful career in Vocational Nursing.

Our goal is to help you begin your LVN career with confidence. As a Vocational Nursing student, you will benefit from over 900 hours of combined hands-on training through our labs and real-world simulations. You will also gain valuable field experience at one of our nearby healthcare facilities. Finally, we will support you on your path to passing the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN), so you can become a Licensed Vocational Nurse in California.

Find Your VN Program

Option 1) Comprehensive Vocational Nursing Program: If you do not yet have a VN diploma, this will be your starting point. This program provides a holistic VN curriculum geared towards preparing graduates for the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). Throughout this program, students will accumulate over 900 hours of combined training in areas such as nursing fundamentals, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, maternal and newborn care, and professional development.

Option 2) 
Accelerated VN-to-Associate Degree: For those already holding a Vocational Nursing diploma, leverage your prior experience and pursue an Associate Degree in Vocational Nursing (ASVN) in as few as 12 months. This recognizes your previous learning, allowing you to progress faster towards further career enhancement. Building upon your Vocational Nursing diploma, you will complete many of the same online general education courses required for graduates of our BSN program. if you ever decide to pursue a BSN-Registered Nurse (RN) career, our online curriculum grants you the necessary general education courses to qualify for our advanced placement BSN program.
